The Sculpins offer various levels of synchro to fit any level of interest or commitment:
Beginner LessonsBeginner lessons are offered at each YMCA branch (See schedule). This is an eight week lesson program designed for swimmers who have never done synchro before and want to explore the sport. Students learn basic skills and a beginner-level routine. Stroke technique is emphasized as well.
Novices ProgramThe novice program begins in the fall, continues throughout the 9-month synchro season, and culminates in participation in the annual Spring Show in June. Each YMCA branch has its own novice group that swims once per week. Swimmers learn beginning synchro skills, a novice-level routine, and develop their stroke technique. Novices will participate in two local novice competitions during the season. The novice program is designed for swimmers who have never done synchro or who have some basic synchro knowledge such as from beginner lessons or a summer camp. Intermediate ProgramThe intermediate program is designed for those swimmers who have some experience with synchro, but are not ready for the age group team. Practices are two or three days a week depending on age. Intermediate swimmers participate in local, regional, and zone level competitions as well as the annual Spring Show. Age Group ProgramThe age group program is for swimmers with two or more years experience. Age group swimming is more competitive but highly rewarding for those who take on the commitment. The Sculpins have qualified atheletes to national level age group competitions for more than 20 years. Age group swimmers compete at local, regional, zone, and national (12 or older) competitions. Practices are three or four days a week depending on age. Masters ProgramThe Sculpins also have a masters synchro team that competed for the first time at US Masters in October 2000. Masters have now competed in 7 Nationals since 2000. The team is open to all adults age 20 and older - no synchro experience neccesary! The team meets once per week. A great way to get in shape, stay fit, and have fun! For more information, contact Betsy. |
