2008 Empire State Games Adirondack Region Synchronized Swimming Trials
The Sculpins will host the 2008 trials for the Empire State Games Adirondack Region Synchronized Swimming team on June 15th. 10 athletes will qualify to represent the Adirondack Region at the Summer Games in Binghamton, NY July 23-27. Routine competition for 7 – 12 year olds will be from 3:15pm – 5:30pm.
Sunday, April 27 at Southern Saratoga YMCA
From 1:00pm – 5:00pm, see the 13 – 18 year olds, including the top synchronized swimmers in the local area.
Both days' competitions will feature routines that are qualifying to go on to Regional, Zone, and National Age Group Championships. Events are open to the public. Spectators are welcome. Click here to find directions to either YMCA location.
CDYMCA Sculpins Synchronized Swim Team Hosts the East Zone Invitational Meet
The Capital District YMCA Sculpins hosted the East Zone Invitational Synchronized Swim Meet at Union College in Schenectady on March 15-16, 2008. The competition included 225 swimmers, ages 7 – 15 years old, from 20 synchronized swimming teams in New York, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Ohio.
The swimmers participate in teams and trios, duets, and solos based on age groups. Three Sculpins teams took first place, including: the 10 and under Age Group team, members included Maranda Bowers, Ria Kobernuss, Eilzabeth Pugliese, and Eleonore Warren; the 11/12 Intermediate team, members including Marija Bebic, Michelle Sauceda, Aishu Sreenivasa-Murthy, and Katherine Peters; and the 13/over Intermediate team, members including Jennifer Ding, Delmarie Moore, Rachel Slade, Alexandra Travis, Ariana Valverde, and Samantha Wright. The 11/12 Age Group team placed 3rd, with members including Katie Bruske, Aubrey Byer, Carolyne Guo, Mathilde Warren, and Katie Ziao.
“I’m delighted with our talented swimmers and coaches. The evidence of their hard work and dedication is evident from these wonderful meet results. The Sculpins will have strong teams for years to come, as this meet shows. I am also pleased with the wonderful support our team receives from the local YMCA branches who assist us in expanding an developing our synchronized swimming program. My appreciation also to the parents of our swimmers, and our senior teams who all contributed time, effort, and lots of food and energy to make our sponsorship of this meet successful" said Head Coach Betsy McGeoch.

CDYMCA Sculpins Synchronized Swimming Season off to a Winning Start
The Capital District YMCA Sculpins made a strong showing in two recent East Zone Synchronized Swimming competitions. The field of competition included 23 teams and over 180 synchronized swimmers from the East Zone, representing clubs from New York, New England, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.
The Sculpins 18/19 A-Team landed the team’s highest honors, securing 1st place at the East Zone Junior competition in Buffalo, New York, and winning the overall team trophy for the highest total score for all events. Two weeks later the 18/19 team captured 4th place at the East Zone Senior Competition in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. Team routine members include co-captains Abigail Duckor and Annelise Williams, along with teammates Kirsten Wendth, Morgan Lebrecht, Annelise Williams, Abby Morris, Courtney Mann, Deanna DeSimone, and Kate Corsaro.
The Sculpins 16/17 A-Team captured a fifth place finish at the Junior Zones competition in Buffalo, followed by a 10th place finish at the Senior Zone Competition. Team routine members include co-captains Kayla Moses and Kathryn Savery, along with teammates Alyssa Bonesteel, Rebecca Crawford, Emily Hedgeman, Melanie Kretzler, Sylvia Mattice, Kayla Parvana, and Katie Richburg.
“I’m very proud of all the swimmers’ achievements and am especially appreciative of the hard work and dedication of the YMCA coaches and support staff at the local YMCA branches who continue to put forth diligent efforts in expanding and developing the synchronized swimming program for the youth in the Capital Region,” said Head Coach Betsy McGeoch.

Capital District YMCA Sculpins win big at 2008 East Zone Junior Championship
February 8-11, 2008: The performance of the Capital District YMCA Sculpins synchronized swimming team at the 2008 East Zone Junior Championship can only be described as dominant. At this meet, the Sculpins were competing against teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The CDYMCA Sculpins were represented by twenty-three athletes. Out of the fifteen Sculpin routines entered, three trios, two duets, and all three Sculpin teams advanced to finals.
In the final competition, the CDYMCA Sculpins were represented by three trios. The trio of Kate Corsaro, Becky Crawford, and Kayla Moses swam for a final place of 7th, with a routine score of 73.168. The combination of Courtney Mann, Abby Morris, and Annelise Williams had a 5th place finish, with a routine score of 73.668. The Sculpins continued their domination with the 1st place finish of Deanna DeSimone, Morgan Lebrecht, and Kirsten Wendth who had a final routine score of 77.334.
The two Sculpin duets that advanced to finals were the pairings of Abigail Duckor and Courtney Mann, and Morgan Lebrecht and Kirsten Wendth. The duet of Abigail Duckor and Courtney Mann came in 4th place with a routine score of 74.500. Morgan Lebrecht and Kirsten Wendth received a routine score of 78.834 to secure their 1st place finish in the duet category.
The final event of the finals competition was the team event, where the CDYMCA Sculpins were heavily represented. The team of Payton Fontaine, Kara Frink, Erin Kisselback, Hailey Matthews, Hannah Pierce, and Amie Skoda received a routine score of 68.500 and finished in 10th place. The team of Alyssa Bonesteel, Becky Crawford, Emily Hedgeman, Melanie Kretzler, Sylvia Mattice, Kayla Moses, Kayla Parvana, Katie Richburg, and Kathryn Savery received a routine score of 74.668 and finished in 5th place. The final CDYMCA Sculpin routine to swim during the weekend of the Junior Zone Championship was the team of Kate Corsaro, Deanna DeSimone, Abigail Duckor, Morgan Lebrecht, Courtney Mann, Abby Morris, Kirsten Wendth, and Annelise Williams. They received a routine score of 81.334 and finished in 1st place.
The accomplishments of the CDYMCA Sculpins at the Junior Zone Championships gave them 53 points in the overall standings, which was enough to win them the High Point Trophy.
